AIGA 2007 Fall Gala

AIGA Gala Dress

We took part in AIGA’s annual gala, and our piece was fully made of cyan paper coasters and a little bit of twine. We titled our dress Venus; paying homage to a gorgeous Dior dress that we both love called Juno (often "Junon"). Sure, it’s not as opulent as Dior’s (see on right), but it included a form-fitting bustier made just for Jennifer, and some very flexible and flowing "petals." The whole point of that year’s Gala, called The Afterlife was to take otherwise trash-bound printed material and find a new and gorgeous purpose for it. Dresses were made of everything from old business cards to coasters to sheet music. Add an uptempo beat, some good lighting and a runway, and you have a fierce fashion show!
